Do Polarization Narratives Apply to Politics on the Periphery? The Case of Atlantic Canada
Overview & Abstract
This sociological study tests whether global narratives of increasing political and social polarization accurately apply to peripheral geographical regions. It finds that Atlantic Canada resists these trends, exhibiting distinct, more moderate political attitudes, higher levels of social trust, and sustained social cohesion compared to broader national and international environments.
